The short version: Rainbet is a crypto casino and sportsbook launched in 2023 by RBGAMING N.V. under an offshore Anjouan licence. It is not licensed in New Zealand, and under the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 unlicensed operators are expected to be out of this market from 1 December 2026. Who operates Rainbet

Rainbet is a brand of RBGAMING N.V., registered at Hamchako, Mustamudu, on the Autonomous Island of Anjouan in the Union of the Comoros. The brand launched in 2023.

So when the question is “who owns Rainbet”, the accurate answer is the corporate operator rather than any individual you may have seen in sponsorship or streaming content. The brand has spent heavily on marketing, which is why the name travels further than the company’s age would suggest, but the entity behind every deposit and every payout is RBGAMING N.V.

Its licence comes from the Anjouan Gaming Board. That is a real regulator and a real licence, in a permissive jurisdiction. What it is not is a New Zealand authorisation, and the distinction is the whole subject of the is Rainbet legit page.

What the New Zealand position is

Worth stating here rather than burying, because it is the fact a New Zealand reader most needs from an “about” page.

Until 2026, online casino gambling occupied a gap in New Zealand law: unlawful to run from here, lawful to play from here, unregulated in between. The Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 closed that gap. Since 1 May 2026 a licence has been required to conduct online casino gambling reaching people in New Zealand, licences are granted by the Secretary for Internal Affairs, up to 15 will exist, and they appear on a public register under section 74. From 1 December 2026, unlicensed supply into this market is not permitted.

Rainbet holds no such licence. Whether it applies for one is not something we know or will speculate about.

For you as a player, nothing in that regime creates liability — the prohibitions in sections 9 and 10 bind operators and advertisers, and the Gambling Act 2003 was amended on the same day to take online casino gambling out of its prohibited category entirely. What it does mean is that every protection the new Act builds — harm-minimisation duties, an 18-year age check, a complaints process answered within 40 working days, an exclusion register — attaches to licensed sites and not to this one.

How this site is funded, and what that does not buy

The obvious question is whether that shapes what gets written, so here is the test rather than the assurance. An affiliate paid on conversions has every incentive to lead with the game count, put the legal position in a footnote, and describe an unlicensed offshore operator as “safe and trusted”. Where our facts come from

Three principles, stated so you can hold us to them.

Legal claims come from the statute. The Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 is Public Act 2026 No 14, assented 28 April 2026. The Gambling Act 2003 amendments arrived through section 88 of that Act on 1 May 2026. Section 74AAA of the Racing Industry Act 2020 was inserted in June 2025. Every section number on this site was read in the legislation rather than taken from another gambling page, and all of them are public — legislation.govt.nz has the current text.

Product facts come from the operator. Game counts, coin support, withdrawal minimums and bonus terms are what the platform states. They change, and where a figure is likely to move we say so rather than presenting it as permanent.

We date things. Every page carries a last-updated date. In a market where the law changed in May 2026 and changes again in December, an undated claim is close to useless.

What we cannot do
